The Golden Age of Illustration
The Golden Age of Illustration is believed to be dated from around 1880 to early 20th century. It is today marked as an era where unprecedented excellence and production of illustrative arts in printed media be it books, magazines, or advertising posters. The period was driven with the huge advancement of printing technology, that enabled inexpensive and accurate reproduction of arts and printed texts. This has resulted a strong surge in public demand for books and magazines, specifically children orientated books also known as “toy books”. Publishing houses were mushrooming and thousands of new books were released annually along with such strong demand, authors and artist were in great demand. The illustrative works from these Golden Age artists were highly sourced after today and the book classics continue to inspire millions of children today.
