Complete 20 Volumes of Vintage Curtis Botanical Magazine

Curtis Botanical Magazine is one of the greatest serial of botanical illustrations that was ever produced, the consistent quality and authority spanning over a century has made it the most widely cited works of its kind. The magazine series run from 1787 all the way to 1980s before the magazine’s name change to “The Kew Magazine” a run that spanned close to 190 years in publication! In the early days, the floral illustrations were labor intensive, hand-coloured prints traced from copper engravings to be placed together with text description of each species. Among the notable contributing artists to the series throughout the century was Sydenham Edwards, Walter Hood Fitch, Harriet Anne Hooker Thiselton-Dyer, Matilda Smith, Augusta Innes Withers, Anne Henslow Barnard, Lilian Snelling, and Nellie Roberts.

William Curtis (11 January 1746 – 7 July 1799) was an English botanist and entomologist at Kew Gardens. William Curtis founded The Botanical Magazine in 1787 (later renamed to “Curtis Botanical Magazine“) and became the longest running botanical magazine from 1787 to 1897. Each issue and floral illustrations in the volume is described in a simple to understand manner by class and order of the plant, scientific name, character & synonym, origins, and locations.
